Migration guide for Hubspot's advanced scopes

On October 21st, 2024, Hubspot will be enabling new changes to OAuth application scopes. These changes are currently optional, but will be required beginning October 21st.

Only Stacksync whitelabel customers are affected by this change. If you're not on a whitelabel plan, no action is required from you.

What's changing

Hubspot is adding new categories that must be selected when adding new scopes to your OAuth application. Currently, all selected scopes are treated as required. From October 21st, you'll have to pick from one of three categories when adding a scope to your app:

  • Required: required for all installations. This is the current behavior.
  • Conditionally required: can be optionally requested for certain app installs. If requested, the scope must be approved for the installation to be completed.
  • Optional: can be optionally requested for certain app installs. If requested, the scope can be excluded if the account or user installing the app doesn't have proper permissions.

How to migrate your Hubspot apps

In Hubspot, select your app. Click on the Auth tab and enable the switch for "Turn on advanced scope settings".

No other change is required from you. Your OAuth redirect URL will remain the same, unless you change a scope from required to any other category. If you change a scope's category, you'll need to reauthorize credentials with Stacksync's public API.
